- Although the header (title) of this product states “Only Shoes”, they DO come with the spikes. You will find that this is a common issue with Chinese to English translations being done by someone whose first language is not English.Design and description:Having good flexibility, they appear to be sturdy- both the platforms and the spikes. The spikes are basically a heavy gauge pop rivet.FIt:Putting them on the first time was a wee-bit of a challenge to adjust the fit. I am 6’2″ 190 lbs and wear a size 11 wide shoe. Size 11 seems to be at the end of the spectrum to fit. A size 12 is pushing it but will work; your toes will be hanging off the front. Width is no problem, I only adjusted them one size wide and have a few more notches to go wider. Not sure how well they will fit with boots.Use and technique:Once I had started to walk around the yard, they loosened up a bit and I was able to cinch the straps more and better adjust them. My lawn was soft enough for these to sink right down to the full length of the spike. It took a little “pull” to get them out but once I had a technique down, they worked fine. You want them snug to your feet/shoes.Once assembled and donned, I set out and put in about 1200 steps in my backyard. Because I am always working in my yard and tamping down my grass, my intent was to use these while I walk around working in my yard- double tasking. Stepping on and off hard surfaces and going in and out of the garage, I figured I would use an old pair of gardening shoes that I could slip in and out of but without having to remove the aerator platforms so as not to damage the spike. Because they require a tight cinch and snug fit, that did not work (can’t blame a guy for trying). So I just used them to systematically lay out a pattern and walk the areas of my yard where aeration was needed most.To get a good aeration similar to what a machine will do, you have to take baby steps and ensure you are covering the entire area. My yard is pretty big so I was not going to aerate the entire lawn in one step-session. So set your Apple Watch, Fitbit, pedometer, and look at it as a workout.I recommend this product.
