- Last year some of our fencing in our backyard came down during Hurricane Helene. I ordered this tool to help dig the holes for the new fence post. I used the 6″ auger bit as I was placing 4×4 posts in the ground. Overall, it worked pretty good. In two of the holes there was some roots in the ground that I had to deal with. I have a pole saw that made quick work of those roots. One thing that I noticed as I was using this tool was that it dug down into the ground with ease, but it really wasn’t removing the dirt from the hole that well. The good thing was that it made it so soft that I was then able to take a post hole tool to remove all of the loose soil from the holes. On the last hole that I was digging, the tool encountered a bigger root and got stuck. This tool does not have a reverse option, so it took me a few minutes to figure out how to resolve my situation. Turns out it is quite easy. You simply pull the cotter pin and disconnect the auger bit from the tool, then I used a long screwdriver and stuck it though the hold in the auger bit and manually backed the bit out of the hole. I actually had to do this two times on this one hole as I was trying to expose the root to where I could use my pole saw and cut it out. I seen some of the tools have a reverse option, but at the time I ordered this one, they were priced significantly higher, so I ordered this one. Since it was very easy to manually remove the auger bit, I’m glad I saved my money. This tool has plenty of power, and while I don’t do a lot of fence post, it will come in handy when me, family members, or friends need to use it. I’m also thinking about ordering an 8″ auger bit as well, just so the holes can be a little bigger to allow me to place a little more concrete in.Before purchasing this item, I did see a review about the bag for the tool. I was able to get the tool with the accessories inside the bag without any issues. I really like that I can keep all the parts stored together for safe keeping.
