- This is about as easy as it gets to fix a problem that sounds way worse than it actually is.My axle was making a grinding noise that sounded like the gears in the axle were definitely shearing off. Took it to Ford and they diagnosed it to be a faulty IWE Solenoid and check valve. Cost to repair = $ 815!! I try and do all maintenance on my vehicles that I can but felt like this one was out of my qualifications. Upon dwelling about paying this insane amount of money I started doing my research with forums and videos, it was determined that this seemed like a too easy to be true fix. So I took a chance and ordered the valve and Solenoid. Once it arrived, it literally took me less than 5 minutes to replace. 1 electrical connector and 2 vacuum hoses later, I jumped in and test drove….problem solved!!! It actually makes me angry that dealerships try and take advantage of people for simple repairs. Do your research before committing to absurd dealer quotes. $ 815 diagnosis and repair = $ 189 all in with buying parts online and paying the Ford dealership for the 1 hour they charged.
