Bon Tool Post Hole Digging & Tamping Bar

- Plusses and minuses, but I would buy it again. I am a homeowner building a chain-link dog-fence. We had to dig down 30 inches. My fence-line is through rooty ground where cottonwoods recently stood. No rocks.I did and would use something else for surface and near-surface roots, but when the root was too deep for an axe, this tool was the root-buster. Like yesterday, the hole was a foot deep and my post-hole-digger hit a two-inch-thick root spanning the hole from side to side. I chipped at it to make sure it was wood. Then I hit it twice on each end with Blue Thunder. Then I reached in and pulled out the root.Minuses. None of these is a deal-breaker, but: (1) I leaned hard sideways on the top end and bent the tip. Can probably bend it back the same way. (2) It’s heavy. Weighs 17 pounds and is 6 feet long. A real chunk to carry or lift. But that 17 pounds turns into an asset when you slam it down on a root. (3) It gets stuck. But what root tool doesn’t? When it sticks, you fight the root plus the 17 pounds. (4) Sledge-hammering the top wasn’t effective for me. It works better when the hole is at least several inches deep and you can chuck this thing down like a javelin.
